Many thanks to the hundreds of guests who joined us in the sunshine at The Sussex Polo Club for the annual Square Peg Polo Challenge on Sunday 26th June.

In a week of typical changeable Wimbledon weather, we managed to hit the perfect day and spectators were able to enjoy their picnics in the sunshine. There was even extra time to soak up the atmosphere and enjoy the music from ‘Relevation’ whilst we waited for one of the horseboxes held up on the motorway!

Before the matches started Freddy Ledger, guest commentator, explained the mysteries of the game whilst two of the younger club members demonstrated the basic moves,. The younger guests, perhaps less interested in the finer points of polo, were entertained by a bouncy castle and play tent.

For the first time in some years the Square Peg team had not made it to the Sunday finals, being knocked out in a hard fought game on the Saturday, but in compensation Katie Jenkins, a Square Peg associate, led her team in the -2 challenge finals. The eventual winners of the coveted Square Peg Trophy went to Structure, shown here with runners up El Bolletón.

All the finalists were well set to party after the competition, with the runners up receiving wine and the winners ‘Smokey Joe’ portable –BQs.

At the close of the day one lucky guest’s name was pulled from the hat to win a free polo lesson. So one more person will now get the chance to be bitten by the polo bug. In line with our commitment to supporting international communities we were delighted to have raised a fantastic £400 in donations for the Northwick Secondary School for Girls in Chennai, India. Very many thanks to all our guests for their generosity in making that possible.

And finally, we owe a huge thanks to everyone involved in creating such a fun and enjoyable afternoon - especially the staff at the Sussex Polo Club.
